Tim Ho Wan (添好運) was started by a former 3-stars-Michelin restaurant chef (Lung King Heen) in Mongkok, Hong Kong. Since then, Tim Ho Wan has earned her 1-star Michelin status and has branches all over Asia. First international branch was established in Plaza Singapura shopping mall, Singapore in 2014. Since then, there are a total of 6 branches just within Singapore.
Here you can get to savour some affordable Michelin star dim sum. Having been to Hong Kong for business trips, personally I felt the flavour is pretty close to the authentic Hong Kong branches. There are close to 30 food items which one can choose from, among which the hot favourites are BBQ pork buns, Steamed Egg Cake, Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake and Custard buns.
Here are some mouth watering dishes which we have tried in our last visit to the Plaza Singapura branch in Singapore:
Glutinous Rice Dumpling (S$5)
Fried beancurd skin with shrimp
Rice with Beef and Egg (S$6.00)
Congee with Pork, Century Egg & Salted Egg (S$4.20)
Braised Chicken Feet with Abalone sauce (S$5.00)
Seafood noodles
Custard Buns
Pan-fried Carrot Cake ($4.50 for 3)
Fried Squid
Steamed spinach dumpling with shrimp (S$3.80)
Prawn Dumplings (S$6.00)
Steamed Fish Maw with Prawn Paste (S$5.50)
Beancurd skin with Pork & Shrimp (S$5.00)
Vermicelli Roll with BBQ pork (S$5.80)
Vermicelli Roll with Shrimp (S$6.00)
Mango Sago Pomelo (S$5.00)
Tonic Medlar & Osmanthus Cake (S$3.50)
If you have some craving for authentic HK dim sum, Tim Ho Wan is the place to go for. But the variety could have include more of the noodles and roasted meats to complete the meal. The saving grace is that the portion size is decent for 2 persons to go.
Overall Rating (1 – lowest/worst, 5 – highest/very good):
a. Location : 4 (in malls and near to MRT)

c. Service : 3 (Some branches can be crowded and understaffed. Some wait is necessary)
d. Ambience & Setup : 3 (Space is limited and tables are pretty close to each other, not conducive to have serious group conversations)
e. Price : 4 (affordable in view of 1-star Michelin standard)
