Being an Accor member, one get to savor fine culinary at Accor hotel chains. The opening of Sofitel So Singapore on 31 May 2014 sees the launch of its equally exciting dining outfit, signature restaurant and bar of the hotel, Xperience.
Established as a cosy yet sophisticated gastro-bar dining concept, Xperience promises diners an interactive culinary journey for the senses.
Xperience houses a capacity of approximately 50 seats with the open kitchen as the central attraction.
The table setting was too simple for the restaurant lush configuration. Perhaps the key focus is on the palate instead of the sight.
The dinner started with some whole meal bread slices and creamy rich house butter.
Foie Gras Truffle Siew Mai – Beneath the unsuspicious local texture lies the infusion of foie gras. Definitely not overpowering flavor with the fillings steamed to the right timing to retain the juices packed within the wanton skins. Four pieces as a starter was just right.
Chilli Crab Tacos – This is recommended for folks who love exploring Singapore top flavor, Chilli crab. Surprisingly, the outer taco wrap enhances the spicy flavor though the purple lettuce garnish was alittle too mouthful. Be warned of the crab sauce which may leak by the sides of the taco.
French Onion Soup – One of the classic French delicacies presented in a mini stew pot. Cheesy bread soaked up with the flavorful soup – perfect match.
Braised Short Ribs with Truffle gnocchi and Parmesan – The ribs were well braised, giving it a smooth and soft texture with the right level of flavor locked in. Spinach goes pretty well with this meat.
Grilled beef tenderloin, mushroom, asparagus and condiments (Black Angus Grass Fed Beef) – Frankly, I would have expected this dish to be the highlight for the night. But it lacked the anticipated grill flavor and the sauce was not too complementing too. Surprisingly, the condiments tasted much better.
Lobster, Scallop and shrimp laksa risotto – This dish took the main stage for the night, both its overall presentation and its flavor. The risotto has the wonderfully induced Laksa spiciness and distinct fried Shrimp flavor. When savored with the coconut milk foam, it’s one perfect match from heaven. Highly recommended as a must try if you are visiting this place.
Decadent Chocolate – The ice cream desert was to minuscule on the big plate. An anti climax for the night.
Menu for Xperience Restaurant & Bar
Overall Rating (1 – lowest/worst, 5 – highest/very good):
a. Location : 5 – Located at the heart of Singapore business district, 8mins walk from the nearest Raffles place MRT station.
b. Food : 3 – Largely french cuisines, limited variety in sides and main dishes. Only selected dishes are worth of a good mention.
c. Service : 3 – Quite a wait even on a non peak weekday evening. Only consolation is the small team of approachable waitresses.
d. Ambience & Setup : 3 : Simple but would have anticipated a more classier setup within a Sofitel hotel chain.
e. Price : 2 – Portions are small against the above average priced dishes.
