This is the answer to my find of a convenient way to consume Manuka Honey without frustrations of storage, unnecessary exposure to air moisture and specific non-reactive spoons.

For some, Manuka honey could sound quite new to you. Below is some overview of this wonder food.

Honey has long been known for its antibacterial properties and been used for treating infections, wounds and cuts during the early civilization of mankind even before the bacteria were discovered to be the main cause of infection. Honey antibacterial property is attributed mainly by its low pH (acidic) content, low moisture content and also release of hydrogen peroxide.

Research has shown that the honey – produced by bees who feed off the manuka bush – has powerful antibiotic properties and can help combat MRSA, fight infections, reduce wound inflammation and help with skin conditions such as acne and eczema.

Key property for Manuka Honey is called the Unique Manuka Factor(UMF®) antibacterial property. The UMF rating is your key indicator as to the strength of the antibacterial effect. A rating of 10 or more is considered to be suitable for therapeutic medical use. Such honey is referred to as ‘active’, although much ordinary Manuka Honey is still marketed as being active despite not having the required minimal rating.

This guide will help you know which Manuka Honey UMF to buy:
• UMF 5 to UMF 10 is recommended for maintaining general health and good digestion.
• UMF10 to UMF 15 is recommended or indigestion, heartburn and diarrhoea.
• UMF 20 and above can treat gastroenteritis, stomach/peptic ulcers, duodenal ulcers, oesophagus ulcers, acid reflux heartburn, Irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, H. pylori and up-set stomach.
• To treat external conditions any Active Manuka Honey above UMF10 is recommended.

The optimum temperature to store honey is between 18-22°C. Since fridge is approxiately 4-8°C and average temperature of Singapore is 28-33°C, the best way to store honey is in a cabinet or cupboard, away from heat sources and away from direct sunlight. Good thing is the property of Manuka UMF rated honey is heat insensitive. However, if the honey is stored in a fridge, the honey will crystallised over time,

This Eu Yan Sang product cost S$13 for a pack of 10, each contains 9g of Manuka honey. It offers a deliciously creamy, butterscotch-like texture with sweet, floral undertones.
